What’s Brewing in West Bengal? TMC MLA Plans Massive Quran Recital Amid Gita Chanting Event

In a bold move, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has declared plans for a grand Quran recital involving one lakh participants in February. This announcement follows a large-scale Bhagavad Gita chanting event held in Kolkata, showcasing the ongoing religious and political dynamics in West Bengal. Kabir's initiative, which includes a feast for attendees, coincides with the foundation laying of a mosque inspired by the Babri Masjid, strategically timed ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. This development raises questions about the intersection of religion and politics in the region.

TMC MLA's Ambitious Quran Recital Plan

Kolkata: Humayun Kabir, a suspended MLA from the Trinamool Congress, announced plans to host a Quran recital featuring one lakh participants in February. This declaration comes shortly after a significant event where a group of monks led a Bhagavad Gita chanting session with five lakh voices.

Kabir, who recently laid the groundwork for a mosque inspired by the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, stated that he would provide a feast of meat and rice for all attendees of the Quran recital.

He expressed his intentions during a press conference in Rejinagar, Murshidabad district, saying, "I will organise a recital of the holy Quran by one lakh people in February."

Following this event, he mentioned that construction for the mosque would begin.

The Sanatan Sanskriti Sansad, a gathering of monks and spiritual leaders from various Hindu institutions, recently held the 'Panch Lakkho Konthe Gita Path' at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

Kabir strategically chose December 6, the date marking the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, to lay the foundation stone for the mosque in a politically charged West Bengal, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
