Puri Railway Station Transformation Underway
Puri: Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Information, and Broadcasting, conducted an inspection of the Puri railway station, which is currently under construction, after paying his respects at the Jagannath Temple.
Upon his arrival in the city on Thursday evening, Vaishnaw, accompanied by Puri MP Dr. Sambit Patra, assessed the progress of the Amrit Station Scheme. This initiative aims to transform the station into a state-of-the-art facility, with 60% of the construction already completed since the project commenced in May 2023.
In a media briefing, the minister emphasized that the station's design prioritizes both modernization and the preservation of heritage, showcasing traditional architecture that reflects Odisha's cultural essence. He noted that construction is advancing swiftly, with an estimated budget of Rs 177.41 crore.
Vaishnaw also announced that preparations are in motion to initiate railway services connecting Puri and Konark, with land acquisition efforts already underway, targeting completion within the next 15 months.
The new station is designed to endure wind speeds of up to 250 km/h and will include eight platforms, baggage scanning facilities, a tourist information center, automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs), a food court, four escalators, four passenger lifts, and one staff lift.
Additional amenities will feature 23 retiring rooms, a hostel with 150 beds, a 60-bed rest area for ticket-checking staff, both paid and complimentary waiting lounges, a lactation room, a child assistance desk, and a 'May I Help You' booth. Special provisions will also be made for passengers with disabilities.
