Low-Pressure System Develops Over Bay of Bengal

What’s Brewing in the Bay of Bengal? A Low-Pressure System Emerges Amid Odisha's Heat Wave

Bhubaneswar: As Odisha grapples with intense heat wave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the formation of a low-pressure area over the central regions of the south Bay of Bengal, influenced by a cyclonic circulation, on Monday.

According to senior IMD scientist Uma Shankar Dash, this low-pressure system is expected to shift northwest until April 8, before gradually moving towards the west-central Bay of Bengal over the next two days.

The IMD's midday report indicated that, despite the emergence of this low-pressure area, dry weather continues to dominate across Odisha's districts.

The report noted a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius in certain areas of North Odisha, while other districts experienced no significant temperature changes.

In coastal Odisha, maximum temperatures were reported to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal, with Boudh recording the highest temperature at 42 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani saw the lowest minimum temperature at 21 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
