Strengthening US-India Relations

Washington: The White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump holds Prime Minister Narendra Modi in high regard, noting that the two leaders maintain regular communication.

During a recent briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that Trump has a positive outlook on the US-India partnership. She stated, "The President respects Prime Minister Modi greatly, and they converse quite often."

Leavitt pointed to last month's Diwali celebration at the White House and the appointment of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India as indicators of Trump's dedication to strengthening ties with India.

"Just a few weeks ago, he spoke directly with the Prime Minister during the Diwali festivities held in the Oval Office, which included numerous prominent Indian American officials. We are fortunate to have Mr. Sergio Gor as our Ambassador to India, who will represent us admirably," she remarked.

On October 21, Trump hosted a special Diwali event, where he referred to Modi as "a great person" and expressed his affection for the Indian people.

The celebration was attended by notable figures, including Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra, Sergio Gor, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, along with influential business leaders from the Indian community.

During the event, Trump lit a diya in the Oval Office, describing it as "a symbol of faith in the triumph of light over darkness" and extending his "warmest wishes to the people of India."

Regarding trade discussions, Leavitt mentioned that Trump and his team are engaged in "serious negotiations" with their Indian counterparts.

"The President and his trade team are actively involved in significant discussions with India on this matter," she added.
