Uttar Pradesh Government Reclaims Land from Mafia for Housing Scheme
Significant Action Against Illegal Land Occupation
In a decisive move against illegal land occupation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh handed over keys to 72 flats built on land previously controlled by mafia leader Mukhtar Ansari. This land, located near Dalibagh in the upscale Hazratganj area of Lucknow, was forcibly reclaimed as part of the state's zero-tolerance policy against land grabbing and organized crime.
Commitment to Providing Housing for the Underprivileged
On November 5, Yogi Adityanath stated, "We will remove the mafia and build homes for the poor." He emphasized that the mafia does not belong to anyone and continuously exploits the underprivileged. The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to reclaiming land from mafias and utilizing those resources to provide shelter and opportunities for the marginalized, sending a strong message that such exploitation will no longer be tolerated.
Flats Developed Under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme
The 72 flats were specifically developed for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme. Each flat spans 36.65 square meters and is part of a three-block structure with ground and three upper floors. These residences are strategically located on a 20-meter wide main road, close to key areas such as Baloo Adda, 1090 Chauraha, Narahi, Sikandarbagh, and Hazratganj Chauraha.
Lottery and Application Process
The allocation of these flats was conducted through a lottery system on November 4, following an online registration process that ran from October 4 to November 3, 2025. Approximately 8,000 applicants registered for these flats, highlighting the increasing demand for affordable housing among economically weaker sections in major cities.
Pricing and Amenities
Each flat is priced at ₹10.70 lakh, significantly lower than the market value of around ₹1 crore for such a prime location. The residential complex offers modern amenities, including clean water supply, electricity, adequate security, parking for two-wheelers, and external developments like roads and parks to enhance the living standards of residents.
Chief Minister's Statement and Zero Tolerance Policy
During an event held in front of the DGP building at Ekta Van, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the government's stringent stance against land mafias. He warned that strict action would be taken against those encroaching on government land, particularly land designated for the weaker sections, similar to actions taken in Lucknow and Prayagraj. He described this as a message to mafia supporters, reiterating that the state will no longer tolerate illegal occupation of land that exploits the poor.
Symbol of Commitment to Social Justice
This significant land transfer ceremony is not merely about distributing flats; it symbolizes the Uttar Pradesh government's firm resolve to reclaim land from criminal elements and provide housing for those in need. It reflects the administration's commitment to social justice, equitable urban development, and the eradication of mafias that have long occupied valuable urban properties.
