In a message shared on Truth Social, Trump referred to the event as a stark reminder of the escalating security risks surrounding what he termed 'our Country’s most cherished structure.'

Trump expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service and law enforcement for their 'swift and professional' actions against the gunman, who had a history of violence and a possible fixation on the White House. He also recalled a recent security incident during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, emphasizing that future presidents will need enhanced security measures in Washington, DC.

'The gunman was killed following a gunfight with Secret Service agents near the White House gates. Panic ensued earlier in the day when a gunman reportedly opened fire at a security checkpoint adjacent to the presidential complex, prompting an immediate federal security response. The suspect, identified as Nasire Best, was shot dead by Secret Service agents on-site. Reports indicate that Best claimed to be Jesus Christ moments before the shooting.

According to the New York Post, the suspect was observed acting suspiciously near 17th Street Northwest before allegedly drawing a revolver and firing several shots at officers stationed at the checkpoint. The shooting took place while Trump was inside the White House, engaged in diplomatic discussions regarding Iran and a proposed peace framework for the Middle East involving several regional countries.
