Trump Announces Temporary Ceasefire Between Israel and Iran Amid Ongoing Negotiations
Temporary Halt in Hostilities
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump revealed that both Israel and Iran have consented to pause their hostilities following recent confrontations. He expressed optimism that a more comprehensive agreement with Tehran is nearing completion. During a discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump acknowledged Israel's reaction to Iranian provocations but noted that both nations have decided to de-escalate tensions for at least a week. "He was hit, and he hit back. I can't blame him for that. Now they've called it quits. They're going to leave each other alone for another week or something," Trump stated.

Trump asserted that his mediation efforts led to this agreement and emphasized that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would remain intact until a final deal is established with Iran. He conveyed confidence in the negotiations, stating that they are progressing well and a resolution could be imminent. "We're in the final throes of a very good deal that will not allow, in any way or form, nuclear weapons. And the Strait will open up right away. It'll open up immediately upon signing, which could be in two or three days," he remarked.
Reiterating his commitment to exert maximum economic pressure on Iran, Trump declared that no oil or income would be allowed to pass through this vital maritime route until a formal agreement is signed. He expressed strong optimism about the ongoing backchannel discussions, suggesting that a significant diplomatic breakthrough might occur within days.
