Train Disruption in Assam

Guwahati, Dec 7: On Sunday, train operations were halted for more than four hours along the Tinsukia-Dibrugarh route in eastern Assam after an oversized trailer became lodged while attempting an unauthorized entry at a level crossing, according to a spokesperson from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The disruption impacted several passenger trains, including the 12424 Rajdhani Express, 15928 Tambaram Express, and 15946 Lokmanya Tilak Express.

The spokesperson noted that the trailer, which was owned by a private firm contracted by Oil India Limited in Duliajan, was operating without the necessary permissions.

"The trailer got stuck while trying to enter the railway level crossing 21DD between Lahoal and Chaulkhowa around 5:30 am, leading to a suspension of train services for approximately four and a half hours," he explained.

To assist passengers on the affected long-distance trains, the NFR arranged for transportation to Dibrugarh via road vehicles.

Additionally, food packets and drinking water were provided for the stranded passengers, the spokesperson mentioned.

The trailer was finally removed from the crossing at 10:10 am.

"The driver has been apprehended, and NF Railway is working with Oil India to ensure strict measures are taken against the responsible contractual company to avoid future incidents," the spokesperson concluded.
