Couple Dies in Grocery Store Fire in Delhi

A tragic incident occurred in Tikri Kalan, Delhi, where a fire in a grocery store led to the suffocation of a 31-year-old man and his 29-year-old wife. The police reported the incident on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Vineet and his wife Renu, both hailing from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. They were parents to two young boys, aged 10 and 8, and operated the grocery store together.

According to a senior police official, authorities received reports of smoke and flames emanating from the store at 8:17 PM on Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered that the store's shutter was partially closed and filled with thick smoke.

Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit near the counter may have ignited the fire, causing plastic packets stored above and around to catch fire. As the flames spread, smoke filled the store, and the couple was unable to escape due to an electric shock from the shutter.

The official stated, "In their attempt to flee, the couple tried to lift the shutter but became trapped inside, leading to their tragic deaths due to suffocation."

The police later managed to open the shutter with wooden logs and retrieved the couple, who were rushed to Oscar Hospital in Bahadurgarh, where they were pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing, with crime scene and fire department teams examining the site. Renu's sister, Alka, shared that the couple's children were the first to notice the smoke and alerted their uncle.

Alka recounted, "The children called my husband, pleading for help to save their parents. He rushed to the scene immediately."

She added that her husband attempted to open the shutter from the outside but was pushed back due to an electric shock. The family is devastated and is trying to comfort the children, who are in deep shock from witnessing the incident.

Alka expressed, "My sister and her husband worked tirelessly to secure a better future for their children. They rarely took breaks, and their only dream was to provide quality education for them."

The family is now worried about the children's future and seeks answers regarding the circumstances of this tragic event. Alka stated, "We cannot understand how the shutter closed while they were inside. It feels suspicious."
