Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Life of Local Man in Koraput District


Nandapur: A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a 44-year-old man drowned after falling from his boat while attempting to cross the Pataliganga River at the Gangaguda ghat in Koraput district. The victim has been identified as Uddharba Hantal, a resident of Gangaguda village in Golur Panchayat.


Reports indicate that Uddharba was alone in the boat when he unexpectedly fell into the river. Nearby laborers and construction workers, who were engaged in building a bridge, witnessed the accident and hurried to his aid. Unfortunately, by the time they managed to retrieve him from the water, he had already lost his life.


Authorities were notified, and Padua ASI Ramachandra Madkami along with Revenue Inspector Kailash Majhi arrived at the scene. Following the necessary procedures, a post-mortem was conducted before the body was returned to his family.


Uddharba leaves behind his wife, Kumari, aged 38, along with their three children: two daughters, Purni (21) and Namita (11), and a 5-year-old son. His wife is now facing uncertainty regarding the future of their children.


In light of this tragedy, local Samiti member Laxmi Matam and social worker Biranchi Matam have called for support to assist the bereaved family. The Panchayat has also stepped in to provide aid through the Harishchandra Yojana.
