Bee Attack Leaves Students Injured

Tragic Bee Attack Injures 40 Students at Daringbadi School

In a distressing incident at a Sevashram School located in Badabanga panchayat, Daringbadi block, Kandhamal district, approximately 40 students were injured due to a sudden attack by a swarm of honeybees on Monday. Among them, four students sustained serious injuries.

Dr. Swagat Senapati from the local community health center reported that the critically injured students are currently under close observation, while the others have been treated and released.

The alarming event took place around 11:30 AM, shortly after school hours, when several students ventured outside to bathe. A nearby tree, housing a beehive, became disturbed for unknown reasons, prompting the bees to swarm and attack the children. In a panic, the students rushed back into the school to escape.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Badabanga Sarpanch Prasanna Kumar Pradhan quickly contacted Headmaster Pranabandu Mahanayak and arranged for the injured students to be transported to the Daringbadi community health center using two auto-rickshaws. All but the four critically injured students were discharged after receiving initial medical care.

Interestingly, just a week prior, the Block Development Officer had convened a meeting with officials from various Sevashram Schools to address ongoing issues. Parents are expressing their frustration, noting that beehives have been present on school grounds for years, yet the school administration has not taken action. The headmaster had previously raised concerns about this issue in the school's messaging group.
