Thomas Müller Bids Farewell to Bayern Munich After 25 Remarkable Years

Munich: After an impressive 25-year tenure at Bayern Munich, Thomas Müller is set to conclude his journey with the club this summer. The 35-year-old midfielder expressed his surprise at the decision to part ways, stating he wasn't prepared to leave.

In a joint announcement with Bayern, Müller revealed that his contract will not be renewed after this season. He shared his sentiments on Instagram, acknowledging the club's choice while noting it did not align with his personal desires.

Throughout his career, Müller has been instrumental in securing 12 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies, totaling 33 honors for the team. However, his recent playing time has been limited.

"Today is a significant day for me," Müller remarked. "My time as an FC Bayern Munich player will conclude this summer. It has been an extraordinary journey filled with unique experiences, remarkable encounters, and unforgettable victories."

Müller made his debut for Bayern in 2008 under Jürgen Klinsmann, with his breakout season occurring the following year under Louis van Gaal. He joined the club's academy at just 10 years old in 2000.

With 247 goals to his name, Müller holds the record for the most appearances at the club, totaling 743 matches, although his game time has recently decreased.

This season, he has participated in 36 matches across all competitions, including a recent 3-1 victory over Augsburg. However, he has only started 12 of those matches, often coming off the bench late in the game.

"I am filled with gratitude and happiness for the career I’ve had with my beloved club," Müller stated in a club release. "The special bond with the club and our amazing fans will always remain. My wish for a farewell is clear: to celebrate titles together and create lasting memories."

While he did not announce his retirement, Müller left the door open for the possibility of joining another club, marking a new chapter since leaving his local team, TSV Pähl, for Bayern 25 years ago.

There may still be more silverware on the horizon, as Bayern currently leads the Bundesliga and is set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League quarterfinals, with the final scheduled to take place at Bayern's home ground.

"We will give our all in the upcoming weeks to reclaim the league title for Munich and aim for our coveted 'Finale Dahoam' (final at home). Let's achieve this together!"

Bayern announced that Müller's final match with the team will occur during the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this June and July.

"Thomas Müller embodies a Bavarian fairytale career; he has grown up in Bavaria and with Bayern," stated club president Herbert Hainer. "No one has won more Bundesliga titles, and his total of 33 trophies speaks volumes. He is among the most remarkable figures in FC Bayern's history."
