Silchar, June 9: As public dissatisfaction grows over the poor condition of roads, including potholes and frequent waterlogging in Silchar, local MLA Rajdeep Roy has reached out to Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for immediate action on repairs and long-term infrastructure improvements.
After his meeting with the Chief Minister, Roy shared with the media that he has put forward several proposals aimed at enhancing road maintenance, expanding critical roadways, and constructing new routes within the 118 Silchar Legislative Assembly Constituency.
Roy noted that Sarma acknowledged the issues raised and provided directives for prompt repair initiatives and subsequent actions.
"I had a productive discussion with Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding various challenges facing Silchar, especially the state of our roads, the need for widening significant stretches, and plans for new road construction. I am grateful to the Chief Minister for his attentive listening and for taking necessary steps for immediate repairs," Roy stated.
The MLA emphasized that road repairs, particularly those associated with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), should not merely involve temporary fixes.
"I have made it clear that thorough inspections are essential, and NHIDCL-related projects should be evaluated comprehensively. Silchar requires lasting solutions, not just temporary fixes," he asserted.
Additionally, Roy addressed the issues of drainage and persistent waterlogging, highlighting their interrelated nature and the need for coordinated planning, especially during the monsoon season.
"We have also discussed drainage issues. All these matters will be tackled together. Without a coordinated approach to roads and drainage, the same problems will continue to plague the residents," he remarked.
The MLA committed to following up with relevant authorities to ensure that road repairs, expansions, and drainage enhancements are executed in a systematic and timely manner.
This development comes as residents express increasing concern over the worsening road conditions in Silchar, calling for substantial infrastructure improvements rather than the temporary repairs that often fail during heavy rains.
