Major Theft at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

Palasbari, Dec 7: With the inauguration of the new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport scheduled for December 20, security issues have escalated following a significant theft of crucial runway equipment.

Reports indicate that several imported items intended for runway lighting have been stolen from the airport grounds, with losses estimated to surpass Rs 21 lakh. A complaint filed at Borjhar Police Station reveals that the theft occurred between December 1 and December 4, involving cast-iron adaptors, base plates, and other vital accessories for runway lighting.

The FIR was submitted by Bikash Sharma, the assistant general manager of AMA Private Limited, the company tasked with storing these materials near the Blue Dart cargo area within the airport. This firm has been operating in this location for nearly two years. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the theft.

This incident is particularly concerning as it coincides with ongoing construction and final preparations for the terminal, as well as enhancements to connectivity in anticipation of the Prime Minister's visit.
