Saraya Reflects on WWE's Control Over Personal Choices

Former WWE superstar Saraya, known as Paige, was released from her contract in 2022 during Vince McMahon's leadership. Reflecting on her time with the company, she expressed her discontent with the stringent rules that governed the lives of wrestlers, which she believes led many to seek opportunities in All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
In her new podcast, Rulebreakers, Saraya shared insights into WWE's management style, which extended to personal choices regarding her appearance. She stated, “If I wanted to get a tattoo, my bo*bs done, or even cut my hair, I had to ask permission from WWE.”

Saraya's Transition to AEW for Greater Freedom
The emergence of AEW has significantly altered the wrestling landscape, providing a competitive alternative to WWE, which had long been the dominant force. Saraya, who has experience in both organizations, emphasized that many wrestlers are drawn to AEW due to the increased freedom it offers.
“A lot of people go to AEW because there’s more freedom compared to WWE. It’s one of the reasons I made the switch.”
During her discussion, Saraya noted that the strict oversight was primarily a feature of the McMahon era, stating, “Things are different now under Triple H’s regime.” Following a lawsuit against McMahon, he stepped down from WWE in January 2024, leading to changes in the company's culture.
Looking ahead, Saraya expressed a desire to return to WWE, particularly with Triple H overseeing creative decisions. She mentioned that WrestleMania 42 in New Orleans in 2026 would be an ideal venue for her comeback, as it holds significant memories for her career.
