Political Shift in Bihar

Sanjay Singh, the candidate representing the Jan Suraaj party from the Munger Assembly constituency, made headlines on Wednesday by switching allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just one day before the initial phase of voting in the Bihar elections.

His transition to the BJP occurred in the presence of Kumar Pranay, the BJP candidate for Munger, where Singh expressed his commitment to support the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

After his defection, Singh stated, “Given the current political climate, I am backing the NDA to ensure their success. I am dedicated to assisting them in achieving a significant victory.”

This last-minute change has altered the electoral landscape in Munger, shifting the contest from a three-way race to a direct competition between the NDA and the opposing Mahagathbandhan.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal has nominated Avinash Kumar Vidyarthi for this seat.

When questioned about his departure from the Jan Suraaj party, led by Prashant Kishor, Singh acknowledged the party's vision but criticized its lack of robust leadership necessary for enacting significant change.

This defection follows the withdrawal of three Jan Suraaj candidates from Danapur, Brahmapur, and Gopalganj in October, which Kishor claimed was due to pressure from the BJP.

The Bihar elections are set to take place in two phases, with voting scheduled for Thursday and the following Tuesday, while the vote counting will occur on November 14.
