Reliance Jio Partners with NHAI for Enhanced Road Safety Alerts
New Safety Alerts for Jio Users on Highways
Reliance Jio has announced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the safety of its users while driving on highways. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to develop a telecommunications-based safety alert system. This system will notify travelers on their mobile devices when they approach areas prone to accidents, regions with stray animals, fog-affected zones, and emergency turns.

Speaking about this development, Santosh Kumar Yadav, the chairman of NHAI, emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards providing timely and reliable information to travelers, enabling them to make informed decisions and adopt safer driving practices. He expressed confidence that this initiative would set a new standard in technology-enabled road safety management on national highways. Under this system, highway users will receive alerts via SMS, WhatsApp, and high-priority calls. The system will be integrated gradually with NHAI's digital platforms, including the 'Highway Travel' mobile application and the emergency helpline number 1033.
This automated system will serve all Jio mobile users residing near or on national highways, providing advance warnings before entering hazardous areas. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that this solution will utilize existing telecommunications towers and can be quickly established without the need for additional roadside hardware.

This strategic partnership will leverage Jio's digital infrastructure to serve over 500 million customers across the country. Jyotindra Thaker, chairman of Reliance Jio, stated that this initiative will utilize Jio's telecommunications network to provide timely safety alerts on a large scale, contributing to safer and more informed travel on national highways. The initial pilot deployment will assist in identifying risk areas and ensuring alert boundaries under NHAI's regional offices. This initiative will fully comply with all applicable regulatory provisions and data security requirements. NHAI plans to implement similar initiatives with other telecommunications service providers as well.
