New Delhi, May 24: The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D) has announced that it will conduct the “Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026” in Aizawl on May 25.


Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for fisheries initiatives valued at approximately Rs 32.15 crore.


These initiatives are designed to bolster the fisheries industry in the Northeast, fostering self-sustaining growth through enhanced infrastructure, modern aquaculture techniques, and livelihood support for beneficiaries.


The meeting will be chaired by the Union Minister, with the participation of Ministers of State S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian.


Ministers responsible for fisheries and animal husbandry from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura are anticipated to attend the hybrid event.


Senior officials from both the Central government and Northeastern states, including secretaries from the Departments of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry and Dairying, will assess the implementation and progress of various schemes in the fisheries, livestock, and dairy sectors throughout the region.


The agenda will also address future strategies for sustainable growth in these sectors, focusing on farmers’ welfare and enhancing livelihoods.


During the event, the ministry will initiate a baseline village-level survey aimed at expanding the reach of Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS).


An awareness film regarding African Swine Fever (ASF) and a booklet titled “Good Husbandry Practices in Pig Farming” will be unveiled.


The event will also feature the launch of MULCO Cow Ghee by the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union Ltd, alongside the inauguration of Mizo Café and an office-cum-sale outlet for FPO.


Certificates, including Fisheries Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), will be awarded to beneficiaries from the Northeastern states.


Awards recognizing outstanding fisheries startups and cooperatives will also be presented. The Union Minister is expected to engage with beneficiaries to gain insights into the challenges faced by the sector and discuss potential support measures.


The program will encompass discussions on increasing fish production, addressing value chain gaps, enhancing market linkages, and promoting exports from the Northeast.


Representatives from fisheries institutions and state governments will collaborate on actionable strategies to boost productivity and create job opportunities within the sector.
