Rajen Gohain's Shift to AJP

Guwahati, Nov 4: Rajen Gohain, a former Union Minister and prominent figure in the BJP, is preparing to join the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) shortly after stepping down from all party roles due to dissatisfaction with the BJP's operations in the state.

Insiders have confirmed that Gohain's move to the regional party is nearly complete, pending only formal announcements.

"His joining has been confirmed. An official announcement is imminent," stated a source close to the situation.

On October 9, Gohain resigned from his positions within the BJP, citing discontent with the internal dynamics of the party.

In his resignation letter, he highlighted an "unfavorable environment" for senior members within the party structure.

Previously, Gohain had expressed concerns regarding the management of the state BJP.

His resignation coincided with a significant BJP election meeting in Dibrugarh, drawing attention to the growing discontent among party members.

In response to his departure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged Gohain's substantial contributions to the BJP's expansion in Assam, while state BJP president Dilip Saikia emphasized that "personal grievances should not overshadow collective objectives."

A seasoned politician in Assam, Gohain joined the BJP in 1991, served as the party's state president, and represented Nagaon in the Lok Sabha for four consecutive terms.

He also held the position of Union Minister of State for Railways during Narendra Modi's first term as Prime Minister.

Gohain's upcoming transition to the AJP signifies a significant shift from the BJP's established leadership, highlighting the internal strife within the party's Assam unit as the next election approaches.
