Pune ATS Arrests Software Engineer Linked to Radical Activities
Details of the Arrest
A software engineer, Jubair Hungargekar, aged 37, was apprehended by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) last week in Pune. Authorities revealed that an old phone belonging to him contained a saved contact number linked to Pakistan.
Hungargekar was taken into custody on October 27 due to his alleged connections with Al-Qaeda and other banned organizations, as well as his involvement in extremist activities.
The prosecution informed the local court that Hungargekar had been delivering incendiary religious sermons in the Kondhwa area of Pune. Investigations are ongoing to determine how many youths may have been led towards radicalization through such activities.
Following the conclusion of his police custody, Hungargekar was presented in a special court for unlawful activities in Pune, where his detention was extended until November 14.
