Protest in Guwahati Demands Justice for Zubeen Garg's Death
Massive Rally Organized by AJYCP
Guwahati, Nov 4: On Tuesday, the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) held a significant protest march in Guwahati, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of the beloved cultural figure, Zubeen Garg.
The march commenced at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara and made its way to Beltola, all while being closely monitored by security forces. Approximately 25 ethnic and student organizations joined forces to voice their collective demand.
Participants chanted slogans and displayed placards, marching peacefully under the watchful eye of law enforcement, urging the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to reveal the investigation's details.
AJYCP president Palash Changmai stated, “Today, 25 ethnic organizations from Assam have united under the AJYCP banner to seek justice. We implore the government and the SIT to conduct a transparent and rigorous investigation to ensure that the true perpetrators are held accountable.”
The AJYCP leadership criticized the authorities for not providing essential information, despite the public's increasing demand for transparency.
Changmai expressed concern, saying, “It has been 47 days since Zubeen Garg passed away, yet the people of Assam remain in the dark about who was responsible, the motives, or the circumstances. The SIT claims the case is ongoing, but there is information they could share. Why haven’t they held a press conference to disclose what they can?”
He noted that while the SIT chief has addressed media inquiries, no substantial updates have been communicated to the public, resulting in growing suspicion and frustration among fans and the community.
The rally saw participation from notable student organizations, including the All Moran Students’ Union, Motok Yuva Chatra Parishad, All Tai Ahom Students’ Union, All Rabha Students’ Union, All Assam Chutiya Students’ Union, All Koch-Rajbanshi Students’ Union, All Dimasa Students’ Union, and All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Union, among others.
The AJYCP has warned that if the government does not provide satisfactory updates soon, they may initiate statewide protests in the upcoming weeks.
