Political Tensions Rise in West Bengal Over Mosque Foundation Laying

Tensions are escalating in West Bengal as Shatrughan Sinha of the Trinamool Congress critiques the recent laying of a mosque foundation in Murshidabad. He argues that this event, reminiscent of the Babri Masjid, signals political desperation as the state gears up for assembly elections. Sinha calls for a day of goodwill on December 6, highlighting the political implications of the mosque's establishment and the actions of suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir. Political Reactions to Mosque Foundation in Murshidabad

On Saturday, Shatrughan Sinha, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, expressed concerns regarding the laying of the foundation for a mosque in Murshidabad, which he likened to the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. He suggested that this event reflects a sense of political despair ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.

Sinha emphasized that December 6 should be commemorated as 'Sadbhavana Diwas' (Day of Harmony), advocating for genuine goodwill and a positive atmosphere on this significant day. Speaking to reporters in his constituency of Asansol, he remarked that the foundation-laying ceremony, along with the gathering organized by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, is indicative of political desperation.

He stated, 'I believe this is a political maneuver by certain individuals, and it wouldn't be possible without the backing of a specific political party.' The TMC has suspended Humayun Kabir, who laid the foundation for the mosque in Raiganj, Murshidabad, intensifying the political climate in the state as it approaches the assembly elections next year. Sinha further noted that the temple-mosque issue is being raised for political gain.
