Police Shooting in Jharsuguda: Two Suspects Injured While Attempting Escape


Jharsuguda: In a dramatic turn of events, two individuals accused of raping a minor girl were shot by police in Odisha's Jharsuguda district on Saturday. The incident unfolded in the Belpahar area as law enforcement was escorting the suspects, Sheikh Asif and Abhishek Barik, to court.


According to an officer, the suspects attempted to escape by seizing a police revolver and threatening the officers. In response to the escalating situation, the police fired upon them, resulting in injuries to both men.


The police stated that they had no choice but to use their firearms after the suspects ignored multiple warnings to surrender. Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds to their legs.


Following the incident, the injured suspects were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsuguda, where their condition has been reported as stable.


The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Himanshu Lal, revealed that one of the suspects, Sheikh, has a history of making threats against the family of the minor victim.
