Odisha's Bold Move: Mandatory AI Training for State Officers
Enhancing Governance through AI Education
Bhubaneswar: To enhance governance efficiency and cultivate a digitally skilled administrative workforce, the Odisha government has mandated that all state officers gain knowledge in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The initiative involves a three-month online AI course aimed at aligning with the government's vision of creating a digitally adept and future-ready administrative body, as outlined in a letter from Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.
Ahuja has directed all departments to ensure their officers enroll in and complete at least one foundational AI course.
In his letter dated April 15, he emphasized the growing significance of AI innovations in transforming governance, highlighting their potential to improve citizen interactions with the government, facilitate predictive analysis, and enhance grievance redressal systems.
He stressed the necessity for state officers to acquire a solid understanding of AI principles, tools, and applications.
This knowledge is crucial for making informed decisions, crafting citizen-focused policies, managing extensive data systems, and improving administrative responsiveness.
The courses, which are offered free of charge on reputable platforms, aim to provide both theoretical understanding and practical insights.
The government has also suggested specific platforms for these courses.
Ahuja has mandated that officers complete their training within three months.
Departments are advised to appoint a nodal officer to oversee the implementation, assist with enrollment, and ensure compliance within the designated timeframe.
Consolidated reports detailing the number of officers who have completed the courses must be submitted to the Chief Secretary's office within the specified period.
