New Color Scheme for Government Schools in Odisha

Odisha Government Schools to Adopt Saffron Color Scheme
In a significant change, all government schools in Odisha will now be painted saffron. The state administration has introduced a new color scheme, transitioning from the previous green and white to a vibrant orange, reminiscent of the earlier BJD government's choice. Recently, the state also updated the uniforms for secondary school students.

Previously, the BJD government opted for green and Safal colors for government school buildings, reflecting the party's identity. The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) has directed all collectors and Samagra Shiksha chairmen to ensure that the new color code is implemented in all government schools, including PM Shri schools, during any construction, repair, or renovation activities. This directive extends to Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas as well.

What Colors Will Be Used for School Walls?

The school buildings will feature orange frost for the walls and orange tan for the edges. OSEPA director Ananya Das emphasized that schools must adhere to this uniform color scheme for all future construction and renovation projects. Last year, the state government also revamped the secondary school uniforms, changing them from white and green to light brown and maroon under the Mukhyamantri Chhatra Paridhan Yojana. School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond had indicated that the color of school buildings would soon be updated as well.

Was the Previous Government's Color Choice Political?

During its tenure, the former BJD government painted numerous structures, including schools and hospitals, in green. Approximately 8,677 government schools were adorned in this color, along with major hospitals like Capital Hospital and SCB Medical College and Hospital. In October of the previous year, the construction department established a uniform color code for all government buildings, specifying orange for outer walls and red for boundaries. A letter to engineering heads confirmed the government's approval of this new color scheme for both new constructions and existing buildings undergoing repairs.
