Odisha Braces for Thunderstorms: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 22 Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for numerous districts in Odisha, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds, along with light to moderate rainfall over the next two days.
As per the IMD's latest bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by wind speeds of 40–50 km/h are expected to occur in the afternoon or evening in one or two locations across 21 districts until 8:30 AM on April 15.
The districts affected include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
During this time, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are anticipated in several coastal and nearby districts, while the rest of Odisha is likely to experience dry weather.
From 8:30 AM on April 15 to 8:30 AM on April 16, the yellow warning extends to another 22 districts, including Sundargarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal, in addition to previously mentioned areas.
The IMD has also cautioned about the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated locations within Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, and Gajapati during this period.
Despite the stormy predictions, the IMD does not foresee any significant changes in maximum daytime temperatures across the state over the next 4–5 days.
In the last 24 hours, Bolangir recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.8 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani noted the lowest minimum temperature at 18.0 degrees Celsius.
