Monsoon Progressing Swiftly

Relief is on the horizon for many parts of the country grappling with extreme heat. The South-West Monsoon is advancing rapidly across India. According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has already enveloped several regions in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

Favorable Conditions for Monsoon Growth

Meteorologists indicate that the next 2 to 3 days are highly favorable for the monsoon's progression, which is expected to intensify pre-monsoon and monsoon activities in various states. During this period, the monsoon is anticipated to spread further into Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and several northeastern states.

Warnings of Heavy Rain and Storms

The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail in the coming 48 to 72 hours across several regions, including Konkan-Goa, coastal Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeastern states. Some areas may experience intense rainfall.

Concerns Over Hail and Flooding

Additionally, the IMD has cautioned about the possibility of hail in certain areas, raising concerns about crop damage and disruptions. The northeastern region is particularly at risk of heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding and landslides in hilly areas.

Delhi-NCR Still Facing Heatwave Conditions

Despite the monsoon's advancement in other regions, Delhi-NCR remains largely unaffected and continues to endure extreme heat, with temperatures soaring above 43°C in several locations. The IMD predicts partly cloudy skies in the capital region, with the potential for light rain or drizzle due to western disturbances and local weather systems. However, these showers are unlikely to provide significant relief from the heat and humidity, as maximum temperatures are expected to range between 38°C and 41°C.

Gradual Relief for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

Weather conditions are beginning to change in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in the eastern and Terai regions, where thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall are expected in the coming days. However, western Uttar Pradesh will continue to experience heat and humidity. The monsoon is anticipated to reach the state by mid-June. In Bihar, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to increase rainfall over the next few days, with thunderstorms and strong winds likely in several districts of northern and eastern Bihar, potentially bringing a 2–4°C drop in temperatures, offering some respite from the ongoing heat.
