Mercedes Moné Triumphs at AEW Revolution Despite Serious Injury
Mercedes Moné's Championship Defense at AEW Revolution

During the inaugural Big-Four pay-per-view event of 2025, AEW Revolution, Mercedes Moné successfully defended her TBS Women’s Championship against Momo Watanabe. This victory not only maintained her undefeated streak but also came at a considerable physical cost.
In her personal newsletter, Moné shared details about the injury she incurred during her match at AEW Revolution. She disclosed that a powerful kick to her jaw and throat resulted in a significant throat injury, showcasing the intense physicality involved in professional wrestling.
The immediate aftermath of the blow left her struggling to speak and swallow, causing a moment of panic. Nevertheless, Moné's experience and determination allowed her to complete the match and secure her title defense.
“Nothing prepared me for that kick that landed right on my jaw and throat,” Moné recounted. “I instantly grabbed my face, praying nothing was broken. Panic set in for a moment—I could barely speak or swallow—but I knew we were nearing the finish line. I woke up the day after the AEW Revolution, and my throat was sore af, and my voice was so raspy I could probably audition for a horror movie.”
Mercedes Moné's Resilience Post-Injury
As AEW Dynamite aired following Revolution, Wrestling Observer Radio's Bryan Alvarez noted that both Moné and Watanabe had sustained injuries during their match. Reports indicated that Moné was dealing with a bruised larynx, raising concerns about her availability for upcoming matches.
Despite the injury, Moné was scheduled to compete against Billie Starks the following week, indicating her determination to continue without missing any time. This matchup marks the beginning of a new rivalry, with Starks positioned as the 'minion' of ROH Women’s World Champion Athena, setting the stage for a potential champion vs. champion clash.
