Fire Breaks Out in Surat's Happy Excellencia Tower
Surat: A significant fire incident occurred early Friday at the Happy Excellencia residential tower in the affluent Vesu area of Surat, Gujarat, leading to the rescue of at least 50 individuals.
The fire's intensity caused widespread panic, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The blaze reportedly ignited around 8:00 a.m. on the eighth floor and rapidly spread to the upper levels, impacting at least three floors of the high-rise.
Footage from the scene depicted thick smoke billowing from the upper stories as emergency personnel worked diligently to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
Surat Fire and Emergency Services responded promptly, dispatching multiple fire engines to the location.
Firefighters executed a swift and organized rescue mission, successfully evacuating over 50 residents, including 18 individuals trapped in a flat next to the fire's origin. Others who sought refuge on the terrace were also rescued using ladders and safety gear.
The building is situated near the residence of Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, who arrived at the scene to oversee the emergency operations.
In a media briefing, Minister Sanghavi confirmed that there were no fatalities and commended the fire brigade for their courageous efforts, likening their bravery to that of 'Hanuman in a battle.'
He noted that while the fire had engulfed the eighth floor and spread upwards, the timely intervention prevented a more significant disaster.
"The fire brigade acted like warriors. Their rapid response ensured the safe evacuation of all residents," Sanghavi stated. "Cooling operations are currently underway to avert any flare-ups."
Surat's Mayor, Daxesh Mavani, also verified that the fire had impacted the top three floors of the tower but confirmed that it was now under control.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.
