Imphal, June 9: In a remarkable display of valor, three soldiers from Manipur have been awarded two Vir Chakras and a Shaurya Chakra, celebrating their extraordinary bravery and service to the nation.


Sub-Inspector (CT/GD) Deepak Chingakham, hailing from Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East district, was honored posthumously with the Vir Chakra during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-I) in New Delhi.


The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu, with his parents, Chingakham Ibemhal Devi and Chingakham Bonbihari Singh, accepting it on his behalf.


Additionally, Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik from Keikhu in Imphal East received the Vir Chakra for his outstanding bravery and service during Operation Sindoor.


Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh of 11 Para (Special Forces) was awarded the Shaurya Chakra 2026 for his exceptional courage and commitment while on duty.


Manipur's Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh congratulated the awardees, emphasizing that these honors are a significant source of pride for the state and reflect the courage and dedication of Manipur's armed forces.


He noted that Sub-Inspector Deepak Chingakham made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation, while Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik and Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh exhibited remarkable bravery and commitment to their responsibilities.


"Their accomplishments exemplify the highest standards of service to the country and inspire future generations," the Chief Minister remarked.


Singh further stated that the contributions of these three decorated individuals in protecting India's sovereignty and integrity highlight Manipur's legacy of nurturing brave defenders of the nation.


He paid tribute to their valor and dedication, asserting that the achievements of these awardees have not only honored Manipur but also the entire nation.
