Major Operation Against Illegal Immigration in Kerala
In a significant operation, Kerala's Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) along with local police has launched a crackdown on illegal immigration, resulting in the detention of several suspected Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals are believed to be residing and working in the state without valid travel documents. The recent operations took place across various regions in Kerala, including Kollam and Kochi, as authorities intensified their efforts to identify foreign nationals living unlawfully in the state. In a recent raid, ten Bangladeshi citizens, including three children, were apprehended in Kottarakara, Kollam district. According to police reports, this group was found working near a scrap shop in Karikkam. During the operation, officials reportedly seized identification documents, including Aadhaar cards, which are currently under investigation.
Bangladeshi Couple Detained After Nearly a Decade in Kerala
In another incident, a Bangladeshi couple was arrested in Neendakara, Kollam district. The couple has been identified as Melan Khan (47) and his wife Mughal Khandal (42). They are accused of entering India without valid passports, visas, or any other legal travel documents. Investigators revealed that the couple had been residing in Kerala for approximately ten years. They reportedly lived in Chalakudy for about seven years before moving to Karunagappally and settling in Neendakara around a month and a half ago. The police stated that the couple allegedly concealed their nationality and made a living as migrant laborers by collecting plastic waste and selling it to scrap dealers.
Fake Documents Discovered During Searches
During the investigation, authorities uncovered counterfeit identification documents. Cases have been registered under the Foreigners Act, and the accused have been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
