IndiGo Airlines Sees Flight Operations Stabilize After Major Disruptions

IndiGo's Recovery from Operational Challenges

New Delhi: IndiGo has successfully managed to operate 1,650 flights out of its scheduled 2,300 domestic and international flights on Sunday, with 650 flights still cancelled. This comes as the airline's operations begin to stabilize following significant disruptions over the past five days.

The airline anticipates that it will achieve full operational stability by December 10, ahead of the previously expected timeline of December 10-15.

In a positive turn, IndiGo's on-time performance from six major airports improved to 20.7% on Saturday, according to data from the Civil Aviation Ministry.

On Saturday, the airline operated approximately 1,500 flights, a notable increase compared to around 800 cancellations.

The recent operational issues have led to numerous flight cancellations and delays, affecting thousands of travelers.

An IndiGo representative stated, "In light of the recent operational challenges, we are implementing significant improvements across our network. On Sunday, we are set to operate over 1,650 flights, an increase from about 1,500 on Friday."

Friday marked a particularly challenging day for the airline, with around 1,600 flights cancelled due to a crew shortage linked to the new flight duty and rest period regulations mandated by the court. These regulations apply to all domestic airlines but have been relaxed for IndiGo by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The spokesperson emphasized that the airline is making substantial progress in restoring its flight schedules and enhancing customer support systems.

Cancellations were communicated to customers in advance, allowing for timely notifications. IndiGo's teams are actively working to stabilize operations.

The airline has also ensured that the refund and baggage processes are fully operational for both direct and indirect bookings. Customers are encouraged to check the latest flight status on the airline's website before heading to the airport, as efforts to improve operations continue.

"We are collaborating closely with all relevant authorities and stakeholders to facilitate a swift return to normal operations," the spokesperson added.
