India Reaffirms Support for Israel Amidst Terrorism Challenges
Strengthening Ties Between India and Israel
New Delhi, Nov 4: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India's unwavering support for Israel during a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in New Delhi. He highlighted the shared threat of terrorism that both nations face and advocated for a unified global stance against terrorism in all its forms.
In his introductory remarks, Jaishankar stated, “India and Israel share a strategic partnership that is deeply meaningful. We have stood by each other during challenging times, fostering a relationship built on trust and reliability. Our nations confront significant challenges from terrorism, and it is crucial to promote a global zero-tolerance policy towards it.”
Welcoming Sa’ar on his inaugural visit to India, Jaishankar noted that this engagement would facilitate a review of bilateral cooperation and identify further opportunities for enhancement.
“The recent signing of our bilateral investment agreement marks a significant milestone. It is also important to mention that your colleagues in agriculture, economy, tourism, and finance have recently visited us. India has made substantial advancements in various sectors, including rail, road, and port infrastructure, renewable energy, and healthcare. Our businesses are eager to explore opportunities in Israel, and we aim to focus more on this,” he remarked.
Jaishankar acknowledged India's close monitoring of developments in Israel, expressing relief at the return of hostages and the remains of those who lost their lives. He reiterated New Delhi's backing for the Gaza peace initiative, hoping it would lead to a sustainable resolution in the region.
He also mentioned the growing number of Indian workers in Israel due to the mobility agreements between the two countries. “There are certain issues that require attention, and I hope we can advance this aspect of our relationship,” he added.
Emphasizing the significance of India-Israel strategic collaboration and the exchange of views on regional and global matters, Jaishankar stated, “We both have a vested interest in several plurilateral initiatives. I look forward to discussing this further.”
