India Joins Elite Club with Successful Laser Weapon Trial
India's Groundbreaking Laser Weapon Test
New Delhi: On Sunday, India successfully tested a laser-directed energy weapon system, marking its entry into a select group of nations equipped with advanced technology capable of neutralizing hostile drones and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) confirmed that the trial took place in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
India is now among a handful of countries, including the US, China, and Russia, that are developing directed energy weapon systems to address emerging security threats.
In a social media announcement, the DRDO stated, "CHESS DRDO conducted a successful field demonstration of the Land version of Vehicle mounted Laser Directed Weapon (DEW) MK-II(A) at Kurnool today."
The weapon effectively targeted and damaged fixed-wing UAVs and swarm drones, successfully disabling their surveillance capabilities. This achievement positions India within the elite circle of global powers possessing high-power Laser DEW systems.
The Indian government is prioritizing the advancement of directed energy weapons (DEWs) and hypersonic technologies to enhance the nation's defense capabilities.
Furthermore, the Indian Air Force is actively working on integrating these sophisticated weapon systems into its aerial platforms.
