Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Launches New Patrol Vehicles to Enhance Road Safety
Strengthening Road Safety in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: On November 4, 2025, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated 66 new patrol vehicles aimed at bolstering road safety and police capabilities across ten districts in Himachal Pradesh.
The acquisition of these vehicles, which cost Rs 18.42 crore, includes a mix of 35 electric vehicles, 14 interceptor units, 10 wrecker vehicles, and seven four-wheel-drive diesel models. These will be deployed in police stations throughout Shimla, Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Kullu, Sirmaur, Solan, and Chamba districts.
During the event, Sukhu emphasized the government's commitment to not only reducing road accidents but also creating a safe and disaster-resilient transportation network. He highlighted a consistent decline in road accident statistics over the past three years, attributing this success to the collaborative efforts of various departments including police, transport, public works, health, and infrastructure.
The Chief Minister noted that the addition of wrecker vehicles would facilitate the swift clearance of accident sites, thereby restoring traffic flow more quickly. He also revealed plans for a cutting-edge Road Safety Control and Command Centre in Hamirpur, with an investment of Rs 30 crore.
“This new control centre will play a crucial role in our integrated road safety enforcement system, linking to modern surveillance cameras being set up statewide,” he stated. The system will support e-challans, real-time traffic monitoring, and improved road discipline, while also generating extra revenue for the state.
As part of the Himachal Pradesh State Road Transformation Project, the government is allocating Rs 60 crore to acquire 3,373 road safety enforcement devices for distribution among the police in ten districts.
Highlighting the modernization efforts, Sukhu remarked, “We are equipping the police department with advanced technology to position Himachal Pradesh Police as the leading force in the country.” He also mentioned the recruitment of 1,200 constables and the resumption of the B-1 promotion test after an eight-year hiatus.
Additionally, Sukhu praised the police for their initiatives against drug-related issues and announced an upcoming statewide anti-drug campaign.
Notable attendees at the event included Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, State Planning Board Vice-Chairman Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLAs Sanjay Awasthi, Neeraj Nair, Vivek Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, and Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari.
