Fresh Snowfall Blankets Himachal Pradesh's Higher Reaches
Snow Covers Himachal Pradesh
SHIMLA:
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the higher elevations of Himachal Pradesh were adorned with a fresh layer of snow, particularly in Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and parts of Chamba. Notably, the popular hill station of Chitkul in Kinnaur recorded snowfall ranging from 2.5 to 3 inches, marking the second significant snowfall of the season. The India-Tibet border area glistened under the morning sun, transforming the valley into a stunning silver landscape.
Residents noted that the upper regions of Kinnaur are now blanketed in snow, with temperatures dropping even in lower towns such as Reckong Peo and Rampur. While Rampur experienced overcast skies since the early hours, Shimla enjoyed bright sunshine throughout the day.
Road Closures Due to Snow
Key routes closed after fresh snowfall
In the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, snowfall persisted intermittently from early Wednesday, resulting in the closure of several high-altitude roads. Authorities have confirmed that the Manali-Leh highway, along with the Koksar-Rohtang and Gramphu-Losar routes, has been obstructed due to snow accumulation.
Nevertheless, the connectivity between Manali, Atal Tunnel, and Koksar remains intact. Reports indicate that both Rohtang and Kunzum passes received approximately 15 cm of snow each, while Koksar saw nearly 10 cm. Despite the wintry conditions, tourists were spotted enjoying snow activities and capturing the breathtaking scenery.
