Typically, when theft occurs, the immediate response is to alert law enforcement. However, in a troubling case from Tumkuru, Karnataka, the victims hesitated to report the theft of their personal items due to feelings of shame and fear of public humiliation. Despite this, the police managed to uncover the situation and apprehended the suspect, who is an engineer by profession. Reports indicate that he developed a habit of stealing undergarments from the girls' hostel after being influenced by adult films.

The suspect, identified as Sharat, resides in IV Cross, SIT, Tumkuru. The female students, who were living in a rented accommodation, expressed distress over the repeated thefts of their innerwear. Initially silent, they eventually reported the incidents to the hostel management after the thefts escalated. This prompted the involvement of Tumkuru police, who reviewed CCTV footage that captured a scooter parked near the students' residence.

The accused comes from a family of educators; both of his parents are teachers. In the footage, he was seen taking the women's innerwear and quickly leaving the scene. Upon interrogation, he admitted to stealing from various homes in the SIT area, SS Puram, and Ashoknagar. Authorities noted that he had a troubling addiction to adult films. Sharat hails from Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumkuru district, and his family was unaware of his criminal behavior until the police intervened.

The female students were initially unwilling to file a formal complaint against him.

Sharat has since been released on bail with a stern warning against repeating such actions. A senior police official mentioned that the students were hesitant to come forward with their complaints. The suspect claimed he was returning home from swimming when he spotted the underwear and decided to take it.
