DGCA Issues Notice to IndiGo Over Flight Disruptions and Passenger Inconvenience

IndiGo Faces Scrutiny from DGCA

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show-cause notice to the accountable manager of IndiGo Airlines. This action follows significant disruptions in the airline's scheduled flights, which caused considerable inconvenience to passengers.

Details of the Notice

In the notice, the DGCA has accused IndiGo of failing to comply with regulations and operational failures.

Reasons Behind Flight Disruptions

The DGCA pointed out that the primary reason for the flight interruptions was the airline's inadequate arrangements for the smooth implementation of the approved Flight Duty Time Limitation scheme.

The large number of flight cancellations indicates significant deficiencies in the airline's planning, monitoring, and resource management. The DGCA believes this constitutes a prima facie violation of Rule 42A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, along with other civil aviation requirements related to flight crews.

Failure to Provide Essential Services

The notice also highlighted that the airline failed to provide necessary information and services to passengers regarding boarding denials, flight cancellations, and delays.

Accountable Manager's Responsibilities

The DGCA reminded the accountable manager of their responsibility to ensure that overall operations comply with the approved manual and regulations.

Response Required Within 24 Hours

The DGCA has instructed the accountable manager to respond within 24 hours of receiving the notice, explaining why appropriate enforcement action should not be initiated against them for these violations. If a response is not provided within the stipulated time, the case will be decided unilaterally.
