Match Summary

On Sunday, the Delhi Capitals wrapped up their IPL 2026 season with a decisive 40-run victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Kuldeep Yadav stood out as the leading wicket-taker for the Capitals, earning the Player of the Match title with impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs.

Kuldeep's Bowling Strategy

"I had a clear strategy in mind. The pitch was slightly slow, so I focused on varying my pace and mixing in some scrambled seam deliveries to outsmart the batsmen. The wicket of Rinku Singh was a prime example; I slowed it down, and he played it straight, which led to his dismissal," Kuldeep explained during the post-match presentation.

Key Dismissals

Kuldeep successfully dismissed KKR's captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 63 runs off 39 balls, along with Cameron Green and Rinku Singh, who fell for a golden duck.

Reflections on the Season

"I am quite pleased with my performance today, but I wasn't satisfied with my overall season. I expected more from myself, and we as a team aimed for a top-four finish but fell short. After the last match, I worked with my coach to refine my skills, realizing that small adjustments can make a significant difference in white-ball cricket," Kuldeep shared.

Adjustments in Bowling Technique

Discussing his bowling technique, Kuldeep noted, "I felt I was bowling with an open chest and not utilizing my full body, which allowed T20 batsmen to capitalize on my deliveries. By engaging my entire body and focusing on spinning the ball harder, I was able to achieve better results, including dip and drift in my deliveries."

Near Hat-Trick Moment

Kuldeep was on the verge of claiming a hat-trick but missed out due to a dropped catch by wicketkeeper Abishek Porel. Reflecting on this, he stated, "Missing a hat-trick is part of the game, but I am content with how I bowled overall."

Match Details

The Delhi Capitals secured sixth place in the league with their seventh win, successfully defending a total of 204 runs. The Kolkata Knight Riders finished just below them in seventh place with six victories. Batting first, DC scored 203 runs, with notable contributions from KL Rahul (60 runs), Axar Patel (39 runs), and a late surge from David Miller and Ashutosh Sharma. KKR struggled to contain runs during the death overs, and in response, they were bowled out for 163 runs in 18.4 overs.

Returning to Basics

Kuldeep emphasized the importance of fundamental skills in T20 cricket, stating, "My coach advised me to focus on spinning the ball to deceive the batsmen. I realized that when I don't use my full body, it affects my rhythm and ultimately my performance."
