A Vibrant Celebration of Fitness

On Sunday, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, spearheaded the Special Commonwealth Games Edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. This event was a significant celebration of fitness, youth involvement, and India's aspirations in sports.


The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre in Guwahati, in partnership with IIT Guwahati, organized this event as part of the nationwide 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle. This initiative celebrates India's upcoming role as the host of the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad. Under the theme #CWG2030InBharat, the event attracted athletes, students, cyclists, fitness lovers, and community members, showcasing national pride and collective participation.


Minister's Address and Event Highlights

During her address, Raksha Khadse underscored the importance of the Fit India Movement, which was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She noted the increasing culture of fitness and sports engagement across the nation. "The 'Sundays on Cycle' event in Guwahati is a celebration of the Commonwealth Games, as India prepares to host them. The Ministry of Sports is organizing this initiative every Sunday nationwide," she stated. Khadse also commended the youth, athletes, and institutions for their participation despite adverse weather conditions and expressed gratitude to the teams from IIT Guwahati and SAI for their successful organization of the event.


Activities and Cultural Showcase

The Guwahati edition featured an extensive cycling rally through the IIT Guwahati campus, symbolizing India's united effort towards becoming a fitter and more robust sporting nation. The event also included yoga sessions, cultural performances, and a special Thang-Ta martial arts display, highlighting the rich sporting and cultural heritage of the Northeast.


Notable Olympians and Commonwealth Games medallists, Jayanta Talukdar and Sushila Devi Likmabam, participated in the celebrations, sharing their experiences and inspiring young athletes with their journeys representing India on the global stage.


Exhibitions and Competitions

A Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition was organized, showcasing India's sporting accomplishments over the past decade, including advancements under the Khelo India Mission, the development of sports infrastructure, and the growth of the sports ecosystem in the country.


Winners of the Commonwealth Games Open Quiz and drawing competition, organized by SAI Guwahati, were honored by Raksha Khadse and other dignitaries during the event.

The 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle saw participation from over 8,000 locations across the nation, symbolizing India's rise as a global sporting power ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2030.
