BSF Engages Suspected Smugglers in Tripura, Two Injured

Incident Involving Suspected Smugglers

On December 7, in Agartala, two individuals believed to be involved in smuggling were injured when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fired rubber bullets at them in the Sepahijala district, according to police reports.

The injured suspects were taken to GB Pant Hospital, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition.

During a routine patrol along the India-Bangladesh border in Putia, located under the Kalamchoura Police Station, BSF personnel noticed several youths approaching the 'zero line' with goods intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.

The Officer-in-Charge of Kalamchoura Police Station, Arup Debbarma, stated that the BSF ordered the individuals to halt, but they ignored the command. With no alternative, the personnel resorted to firing rubber bullets.

Debbarma confirmed that both injured individuals were transported to the hospital and are not in life-threatening danger due to the use of non-lethal ammunition.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the injured may be minors, but verification of their age through documentation is necessary. An investigation is currently underway, and a police team is actively patrolling the Putia area and nearby border regions.
