Bangladesh Announces Test Squad for Ireland Series with Key Changes
Mahmudul Hasan Joy Returns to the Test Team
Bangladesh has revealed a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Ireland, commencing on November 11 in Sylhet. Top-order batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy has made a comeback to the team. Joy, who has participated in 18 Tests, made headlines with a remarkable century in South Africa in 2022, marking the first such achievement for a Bangladeshi player in that nation.
Najmul Hossain Shanto Reappointed as Captain
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Najmul Hossain Shanto will remain the captain of the Test team through the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Although Shanto had resigned from the captaincy following a 1-0 series defeat to Sri Lanka in June, he has been reinstated just in time for the series against Ireland.
Squad Details and Player Achievements
The squad includes four fast bowlers: Ebadot Hossain, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Khaled Ahmed, along with three spinners: Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, and Hasan Murad. Notably, Murad recently achieved a remarkable 9-for-135 performance for Chattogram in the National Cricket League. Additionally, Taijul Islam is on the verge of surpassing Shakib Al Hasan's record for the most Test wickets by a Bangladeshi bowler, needing just 10 more wickets to reach this milestone.
Test Series Schedule
The two Tests against Ireland are set to take place from November 11-15 in Sylhet and November 19-23 in Dhaka. It is important to note that these matches are not part of the World Test Championship.
