Both he and his driver were rescued by locals and taken to a health center before being transferred to a medical college due to serious injuries. Assistant Collector Injured in Truck Collision on NH-16: Investigation Underway


Jajpur: An assistant collector from Khordha district, Ashwini Kumar Nayak, along with his driver, sustained injuries when their SUV was struck by a speeding truck on Tuesday, according to police reports.


The collision occurred on NH-16, close to Mulapala Chhak, within the jurisdiction of the Kuakhia police station in Jajpur district.


At the time of the accident, Nayak was en route to Balasore from Bhubaneswar.


The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the vehicle behind.


Local residents came to the aid of Nayak and his driver, extricating them from the wrecked SUV and transporting them to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.


Authorities have initiated an investigation into the crash.


Chinmayee Sahoo, the inspector-in-charge of the Kuakhia police station, stated, "We have obtained CCTV footage from the vicinity and are analyzing it to pinpoint the truck involved in the incident. Additionally, we have secured the damaged SUV for further examination."
