Nita Ambani Celebrates Indian Artistry at Swadesh Store Launch
A Night to Honor Indian Craftsmanship
Nita Ambani organized a remarkable event in Mumbai on Friday, dedicated to honoring Indian artists and master craftsmen, celebrating traditional artistry at the Swadesh flagship store located at Eros.
The evening showcased the talents of some of India's most esteemed National Award-winning artisans, whose works were featured in The Master’s Pavilion at Swadesh.
This exhibition highlighted creations from distinguished artisans, including Shammi Bannu Sharma, celebrated for her miniature art, textile specialist Gunjan Jain known for Odisha Ikat, and weaving legends like V. Panneerselvam, GhanShyam Sarode, and Padma Shri Biren Basak. Each displayed piece reflected generations of expertise and artistry, emphasizing Swadesh’s commitment to preserving India’s living heritage.
Throughout the event, Nita Ambani engaged with the intricate artworks and interacted with the artisans. This initiative served as a tribute to the communities dedicated to maintaining India’s traditional crafts and techniques. For this special occasion, Nita Ambani donned a stunning peacock-blue Banarasi saree from Swadesh, crafted using the historic Kadhua technique, renowned for its robust weave and intricate handwork. The saree was adorned with delicate meena motifs, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of Banaras’ weaving community.
She paired her saree with a blouse designed by Manish Malhotra, featuring a delicate polki border. The blouse was notable for its thoughtful details, including hand-painted deity buttons and a vintage spinel tassel from Nita Ambani’s personal collection.
Nita Ambani’s jewelry reflected India’s royal heritage and her personal lineage. She accessorized her ensemble with antique Kundan polki earrings that are over a century old, a handcrafted jadau bird ring from Swadesh, and a cherished haath phool that has been passed down from her mother, symbolizing family heritage.
The launch of the Swadesh flagship store in Mumbai attracted numerous Bollywood celebrities, including Sonam Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, celebrity couples Riteish–Genelia Deshmukh and Ranveer Singh–Deepika Padukone, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh with his wife Hazel Keech, Madhuri Dixit with her husband Shriram Nene, along with producer Gauri Khan and designer Manish Malhotra, among others.
