Celebration of Morigaon District Day
Morigaon, Oct 15: The two-day festivities for the 37th Morigaon District Day wrapped up on October 14, featuring a vibrant event along the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Lahorighat.
The opening ceremony took place on October 13, orchestrated under the leadership of district commissioner Anamika Tiwari, with participation from various district departments.
The celebrations commenced with a homage to the iconic singer Zubeen Garg. A performance by a 10-member women's group led by Debjani Bordoloi followed, showcasing Borgeet, along with Zikir and Jari presentations from the Mairabari Samhata Shishu Unnayan Project.
Local MLAs Ramakanta Dewri and Dr. Asif Mohammad Nazar addressed attendees, emphasizing the advancements in Morigaon district and outlining future development initiatives.
A spectacular boat rally was organized on the Brahmaputra to highlight the district's tourism potential.
During the event, district commissioner Anamika Tiwari announced the designation of Lahori Char as a picnic area, encouraging visitors to explore the scenic beauty along the riverbank.
The celebration not only showcased the district's rich cultural heritage and natural splendor but also demonstrated a commitment to progress. The recognition of Lahori Char as a picnic spot is anticipated to enhance tourism in the region.
Notable attendees included Jibon Konwar, chief executive member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council, representatives from the Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, and Atanu Sarma, secretary of the Asam Unnati Sabha.
The second day of the celebration commenced with a ceremonial flag hoisting by Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika along the Charon Beel. The minister also conducted the bhumi pujan for a proposed 25-foot statue of Zubeen Garg at the site.
In his address, Hazarika remarked on Morigaon's development, highlighting its agricultural progress and commendable per capita income.
