Details of the Shooting Incident

Authorities in the United States have confirmed the identity of the shooter involved in the incident near the White House on Saturday as 21-year-old Nasire Best. This information comes from a report by a news outlet citing law enforcement sources. It has been revealed that Best had prior encounters with law enforcement and was struggling with mental health challenges.

On Saturday evening, the gunman opened fire at Secret Service agents stationed near the White House shortly after 6 PM local time, specifically near the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. According to the Secret Service, the suspect approached a security checkpoint with a bag, from which he drew a firearm and began shooting at the officers present.

"Initial investigations suggest that as he neared the checkpoint, he brandished a weapon from his bag and started firing at the officers on duty," the Secret Service stated.

In response, the officers returned fire, hitting the assailant, who was subsequently transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. While the suspect has been identified, authorities are still working to determine his motives and whether he had any affiliations with extremist groups or prior threats against federal officials.

Reports indicate that the shooter was emotionally disturbed and had previously been subject to a restraining order. Additionally, a bystander was injured during the incident, although it remains uncertain whether this individual was hit by the initial gunfire or during the exchange with law enforcement. Unfortunately, it has been reported that the bystander has also died.
