Adah Sharma Addresses the Backlash Against Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor has faced criticism for her portrayal in the film Peddi, leading to significant backlash against the filmmakers for how they depicted the female lead. Following the uproar, director Buchi Babu Sana issued an apology and removed contentious scenes from the movie featuring Ram Charan. In light of this, Adah Sharma, who is set to appear alongside Manoj Bajpayee in the upcoming film Governor, shared her perspective on the controversy during an exclusive interview.

Adah Sharma's Perspective on the Controversy

In a candid discussion, Adah was asked about the trolling directed at Janhvi Kapoor regarding her role in Peddi and the broader issue of how women are portrayed in South Indian cinema. She remarked, “I have always been open to discussing any aspect of a film I am involved in. During the discussions surrounding The Kerala Story, I addressed all inquiries. If I am part of a scene in any film, I will respond to questions about it, whether it involves someone desiring me or vice versa.”

However, Adah refrained from commenting directly on the Peddi controversy, stating, “I am not part of Peddi and have not seen the film yet. My experiences as someone outside the industry differ greatly from those within it, so my opinion may not hold weight in this context.”

Adah Sharma on the Importance of Thoughtful Role Selection

When questioned about whether actresses should be more selective in their project choices to improve the representation of women in Indian cinema, Adah emphasized the need for caution among all actors. She stated, “It’s not just female actors; male actors, directors, writers, and even those responsible for costumes must be mindful. A single poor choice can have widespread repercussions. Change doesn’t happen overnight.”

She further elaborated, “Women in real life embody a range of traits—humorous, intimidating, courageous, confused, intelligent, and dramatic, often all before breakfast. I appreciate scripts that present female characters with depth and complexity.”

For context, Janhvi Kapoor and Ram Charan's film, Peddi, performed well at the box office, surpassing the ₹150 crore milestone in India.

Upcoming Projects for Adah Sharma

Turning to Adah Sharma's future endeavors, her next film, Governor, directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, features Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. Governor is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026, and will compete with Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata and Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga.
