Victory at the Asia Pickleball Tournament

On June 7, Vietnam's Hoang Nam Ly teamed up with Roos Van Reek to secure the mixed doubles championship at the Asia Pickleball Tournament. They triumphed over Harsh Mehta and Nicola Schoeman with scores of 17-21, 21-9, 21-11. This victory marked Nam Ly's first gold medal of the tournament after previously finishing as a runner-up in two finals, while it also allowed Van Reek to achieve a remarkable triple crown.

The final match began with a tightly contested first game. At a critical moment, with the score tied at 10-10, Nam Ly called a ball out. Mehta and Schoeman challenged this call, and after a review, the referee ruled in their favor, giving them an 11-10 lead. They capitalized on this decision, playing confidently to win the first game 21-17, putting them just one game away from the title.

However, the second game saw a dramatic shift. Nam Ly and Van Reek returned with renewed determination, dominating the rallies and winning decisively at 21-9, thus leveling the match. The final game quickly turned in favor of Nam Ly and Van Reek as Mehta and Schoeman struggled under pressure, leading to numerous errors. The match concluded with Nam Ly and Van Reek reaching championship point at 20-11, and a final error from Mehta sealed their victory at 21-11.

This title was particularly meaningful for Nam Ly, who had already earned two silver medals earlier in the tournament, finally achieving gold in the most significant event. Van Reek's accomplishment was even more impressive, as she had already claimed titles in both women's singles and doubles, making her victory in mixed doubles a historic clean sweep of all three events she participated in.
