Tamil Nadu Unveils Trophy for FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025

In a significant ceremony held in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the trophy for the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025. The event, attended by key officials from Hockey India and the Tamil Nadu government, highlighted the state's commitment to supporting hockey. Scheduled from November 28 to December 10, 2025, this tournament will feature 24 teams for the first time, with India aiming for its third title on home soil. The excitement builds as India prepares to face Chile in their opening match at the iconic Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium.
 

Trophy Unveiling Ceremony in Chennai


Chennai, Nov 5: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, presented the trophy for the forthcoming FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 during a ceremony at the Secretariat on Wednesday.


The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin; N. Muruganandam, IAS, Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu; Atulya Misra, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary; and Shri J. Meghanatha Reddy, IAS, Member Secretary and CEO of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).


Also in attendance were Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India; Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India; and Thiru Sekar J. Manoharan, Treasurer of Hockey India and President of the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.


The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 is scheduled to occur from November 28 to December 10, 2025, in Chennai and Madurai. This tournament will be notable for featuring 24 teams for the first time. India, the host nation, has previously won the tournament twice, in 2001 and 2016, and aims to secure the trophy again on home turf.


India has been placed in Pool B alongside Oman, Chile, and Switzerland, with their first match against Chile on November 28 at the renowned Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai.


During the event, Hockey India President Tirkey expressed, “It is a significant honor to have the Chief Minister unveil the Junior World Cup trophy. Tamil Nadu has consistently supported Indian hockey, and we are thrilled to host this prestigious event in Chennai and Madurai.


“The state’s exceptional facilities, paired with its enthusiasm for the sport, will ensure this edition is truly unforgettable. On behalf of Hockey India, I extend our sincere thanks to the Tamil Nadu Government and SDAT for their ongoing support.”


Hockey India Secretary Bhola Nath shared similar sentiments, stating, “The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup symbolizes the future of international hockey, and hosting it in India offers a remarkable opportunity for our young athletes.


“With top-notch infrastructure, dedicated fans, and the steadfast backing of the Tamil Nadu Government and SDAT, we are confident this tournament will establish new benchmarks of excellence and motivate a new generation of hockey players throughout the nation.”
