Lucknow Super Giants Face Tough Season in IPL 2026: Leadership Under Scrutiny
Lucknow Super Giants' Disappointing IPL 2026 Campaign
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a challenging season in IPL 2026, finishing at the bottom of the table after suffering 10 losses out of 14 matches. The franchise invested INR 27 crore to acquire Rishabh Pant and appointed him as captain, but this decision has not yielded positive results over the past two seasons. Under Pant's leadership, LSG has lost 18 of 28 matches, failing to qualify for the playoffs in both years. His batting performance has also been subpar, with scores of 269 and 312 runs in the respective seasons.
Tom Moody, the director of cricket for Lucknow, hinted that the team might explore new captaincy options for the upcoming season following their disappointing performance. He acknowledged that Pant has struggled with the pressures of captaincy, which may have impacted his batting. Moody stated, “From a captaincy perspective, he’s found it challenging, and the results reflect that. We need to consider a reset.” He emphasized the need for reflection and serious consideration regarding the leadership structure moving forward.
'Collective Responsibility for the Season'
Despite the team's struggles, Moody refrained from placing the blame solely on Rishabh Pant, asserting that the disappointing results stemmed from a collective failure. He remarked, “We’re all responsible for the disappointing season. It’s not the time to point fingers at any individual. We all need to reflect calmly on the situation and address the necessary issues.”
